Looper ou 'Echos'
programmed tool for av performance, XX MINUTOS
YEAR
A brief action few seconds long is performed and recorded in real time. As the performer continues the action, the short recording gets layered with the new sound and image coming in, in a feedback system. The amount of feedback (or, inversely, how quick the sound played 'forgets' the older recordings) is controlled by the performer. The piece is based on a fragment of The Invention of Morel (1940), by Argentinian writer Adolfo Bioy Casares, where the main character interacts with recorded figures.

the tool Looper/Echos is adapted for this performance situation. The tools does not repeat sound but only image. The performer attempt to complete the projected image, his/her recently captured past, by adding the sounds again live. In the recorded image they clap. When this is reproduced he adds the sound with hammer. When the hammer htting the table is being shown in the screen he/she synchronizes the video-action with another live-gesture, and so on.

an artwork that refers to personal and collective narratives about time and fatherhood.
The work explores spatial & monumental qualities of video images when inserted in the space.
through the video, the visitors experience echoes of past actions.
two projectors are used simultaneously, synchronized and projecting 2 different channels of video on the same area.

An sort of a/v online post-art. Musician clarinetist Ziv Taubenfeld got inspired by a poem. He started sending a music track including the reading of the poem to another musician, who then added a second track, and so forth. I was the last in the chain and added the video layer. Techniques used for the video are from Goldfish Club.

Sound / Music investigation
I started with field recording. (an exercise in listening, getting inspiration from what is right next to me, which for me is a very political-environmental atttude – of not producing more in this saturated world, of acknowlegding the inspiration brought by the other, the one thing next –, as well as spiritual of mindfully slowing down). (Capturing emphasises the role of the tools to determine how we perceive). Parallel to capturing the surroundings, since master art-science (2010) i've investigating programming tools.(Looper/Echos come from then) Since corona, more consistent in practice; also incorporated extra hardware. I have been for years recording snippets, experiments, moments.
in 2022/23 some of these fragments see the light via GFC performances.

Master Art-science
2010-2012 started with investigation of appropriation, inspired historically from brazilian artistic movement and brazilian culture ethos that base on borrowing, stealing.
Further in the process it became about Appropriating internal & external narratives to create performative-audiovisual.
During the master, learned coding to develop a/v tools, explored performances (also solely with human body and without techonlogy). culminated with In-Return video installation.

Design work Não tenho mostrado isso. Não ajuda, acho, a contar essa estoria aqui, de arte/autor/músico. Pragmaticamente o plano agora não é mais ganhar dinheiro com design. Porém faz parte da minha produção passada. E acho que há pontos de interseção com a estória aqui de artista-autor. por exemplo: do design work posso recortar o trabalho com 'code/programming', pegada mais estética, desenho computacional, geometria, interatividade/live, que dialoga com Goldfish Club

website where visitors can draw with a tool. the drawing can be submitted. on a certain date visitor will get a gift, a personalized wrapping paper with his drawing in it. the date is marked with an event, where projections of the graphics fill the the space.

2023-12 / Pdok feest: In his studio Pablo Dias investigates images that dance, sounds that touch and electronics that tell stories. For the '25 jaar feest' he will bring his laboratory of old and new audiovisual devices to the Dokzaal, where he will activate the space and dialogue with the musical acts of the evening.

In my practice I’m interested in digital discourses that only get complete when using the power of the physical presence and human interaction. For instance, the moment when a beautifully crafted technique finally is put in the real world and is being used by others. Or how certain images are experienced depending on how they are shown.

De 2010-12 concluiu o mestrado ArtScience na Royal College of Arts de Haia / Holanda, onde pesquisou a prática da apropriação para (re)criar narrativas coletivas e individuais. Já expôs e palestrou no Brasil e na Holanda (V2, Todaysarts festival, Pecha Kucha Amsterdam, Solar Grandjean de Montigny PUC-Rio)

Visual artist with background in design and audiovisual communication, working mainly with video and performance. Based in Amsterdam for five years.
Pablo's work is based on the act of appropriation and translation. He is inspired by the communication potential of the human body, by verbal discourses and by the mystical power of sound.
He uses his sensibility to filter and repurpose a vast collection of references from philosophy to music, from physics to cinema. The results often rely on an aesthetical tenderness, while digging deep personal and collective issues.
Currently he is second-year master student at ArtScience course (Royal Academy of Arts / Royal Conservatorium / Interfaculty – Den Haag). There he researches ways to use video, performance and programming to re-contextualize mythology, the experiencing of time, personal narratives and ritualistic practices.

I am Pablo Dias, a visual artist and designer working mainly with video, performance and programming.
I studied visual communication in Rio de Janeiro - BR (PUC-Rio, 2000-2004)
In 2006 I moved to Amsterdam. While doing design and video assignments and inspired by the dutch scene, I've gradually found my own artistic voice
I am fascinated by the audiovisual, electronic, digital medium. I'm even more fascinated by everyday life and the human body. I try to find poetics in the juxtaposition of the medium with the universe around or inside us.
I manipulate the perception of time, space, speech, and human presence through video, interactive tools and sound.
I combine the audiovisual medium with the live experience.
